The chief of defence staff, Gen. Abayomi Olonisakin,
yesterday told President Muhammadu Buhari that the problems of bad weather and
logistics, were militating against the ongoing effort by the military to
totally crush the Boko Haram insurgents before the December deadline mandate.
Olonisakin, who stated this
after a meeting of service chiefs with the president in Aso Rock, told
journalists that they met with Buhari to brief him on the level of progress
made so far in the war against terror, adding that they informed the president
about the challenges the soldiers were facing in combating the terror group in
the North East.
According to him, the service
chiefs and the president took time at the meeting to strategize on the way
forward.
Olonisakin said the service
chiefs did not ask the president for extension of the December deadline to end
the insurgency, saying it was normal that military operations must have timelines.
On
external assistance, the defence chief said that Nigerian soldiers had been
getting assistance from the United States and the United Kingdom in terms of
capacity building.
