President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, ordered the
Inspector General of Police (IG), Mr. Solomon Arase, to trim down the number of
policemen attached to dignitaries, and redeploy all policemen withdrawn from
that role to regular police duties.
The president gave the directives when he met with the
Police Service Commission (PSC), Inspector General of Police (IG) and the
Ministry of Police Affairs.
He assured Nigerians that the
police would receive more funding and equipment, under his administration.

Buahri had on Monday
announced plans by the federal government, to recruit about 10,000 new
officers and men in the police.
He told the PSC not to collect bribes from those seeking to joint the police force.

A statement by the Special
Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said Buhari
told the officials that those in charge of recruitment and training in the
police, must be above board and shun every form of extortion and underhand
dealing.
