PRESIDENT Muhammadu
Buhari has vowed that his administration
would trace the accounts of individuals, who stashed away ill-gotten oil money,
freeze and recover the loot and prosecute the culprits.
He also spoke of the
consequences of the removal of petroleum subsidy, saying that if removed, it
would cause inflation in the country.
According to a
statement issued by Senior Special Assistant (Media and Publicity) to the
president, Garba Shehu, in Washington DC, United States, the president made the
declaration while reacting to questions from members of Nigerians In Diaspora
Organisation (NIDO), in the United States and Canada at the Nigerian Embassy in
Washington DC.
According to him,
“250,000 barrels per day of Nigerian crude oil are being stolen and people sell
and put the money into individual accounts,” adding that the United States and
other developed countries “are helping to
trace such accounts now. Buhari faulted the mode of operation of the Nigerian
National Petroleum Corporation, saying his administration would check the
excesses of the corporation.
