It has been gathered that some politicians are spreading rumors that the card reader machine can suck blood. This was said in a bid to scare people from voting during the elections. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday met traders at the Illela International Market in Sokoto State, debunking rumors that the card reader machines suck blood.
Addressing people at the market, the head of Voter Education and Publicity unit of the Commission in Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammed Musa Sokoto, said the machines were harmless and only meant to check election fraud.
“The card reader doesn’t suck blood as being peddled by some people. It is harmless and meant to enhance the credibility of the process,” he said.
He advised the traders against selling their cards, saying it is only with the PVC that they would be able to vote for candidates of their choice.
The Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA) Abubakar Mode Danchadi, appealed to the traders to come out and vote during the elections.
He warned against carrying of weapons or engaging in any act capable of breaching the law on election day.
