If I Am Elected, I Wont Ban Okada In Lagos-Ambode

AkinAmbode

The All Progressives Congress, APC, Governorship candidate in Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has promisedhis administration would not ban commercial motorcycle operators, popularly known as Okada riders from their routes of operation, across the state.   It will be recalled that the incumbent Governor Babatunde Fashola had on August 2, 2010, signed the Lagos State Road Traffic Bill into a Law, part of which restricted the operation of Okada in about 475 roads, of over 10,000 roads, in the state. But speaking yesterday at the sensitization and launch of a sticker, captioned: “Okada Allowed”, sponsored by the Support Group of Ambode 2015, in Ikeja, Ambode said the news currently making the rounds about restricting movement of Okada riders in the city beyond current ones was mere propaganda by PDP that should be ignored. He said, “We’re aware of the insidious campaign by the PDP regarding the use of Okada. Of over 10,000 roads in Lagos, only about 475 roads had Okada restriction in place and this is strictly meant to ensure safety of the people of the state. “All commercial motorcycle operators in the state will benefit in the urban renewal programme of my administration when elected into office.” He also assured residents of good governance if he is voted into office, adding that the APC has the interest of all Lagosians at heart. “We believe that we’re going to take on the world. By the time we get settled in the office, we’ll start development programmes that will make the whole world start talking about Lagos,” Ambode added. Speaking on the aim of the project, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Ambode 2015 support group and former Minister of State for Defence, Mr Ademola Seriki, said one of the features of the traffic experience in Lagos in the last 15 years was the ownership and use of motorcycle for commercial transportation.
