The Plateau chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has said it would on Sunday, launch a N1 billion poverty eradication fund for alleviation of poverty among youths and women in the state. This was contained in a statement by the party’s Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Saddiq Sumbelep on Tuesday in Jos. According to Sumbelep, the fund would be realised from the retailing one million cans of Pepsi Cola soft drink at a special price. He stated that the party had already reached an agreement with the Jos branch of the company that makes the soft drink ‘’to supply the party one million cans of its product to be retailed at N1,000 each to generate the sum of N1 billion’’. He said that the event scheduled for Lamonde Hotel, Jos was in support of the party’s ‘’Masses- Oriented Poverty Eradication and Peaceful Society Initiative’’. Sumbelep stated that beneficiaries of the fund who would be granted interest free loans would be drawn from APC Micro Finance Cooperative Society Ltd, and registered voters with permanent voter card.
