The Federal Government on Monday directed that all schools from the primary to the tertiary level
should remain open during the period of the general elections. It also directed all private schools in the
country to comply.
This decision was reached at the end of a meeting between the Minister of Education in Abuja, Mallam
Ibrahim Shekarau and States’ Commissioners of Education, managements of the National Commission,
National Board for Technical Educations and other stakeholders in the education sector.
The announcement was made to allay what the Minister said were unfounded fears and rumours of security threats during the elections.
Parents and guardians are, however, wary of allowing their wards remain in schools during the polls. But Shekarau assured that the Federal Government had put in place adequate measures to ensure safety of schools at all levels.
My Advice is that we go take our wards oo. Mallam Ibrahim's children no dey naija o.. beta open eyes. lol
